Font Rendering

A same part of website looks different in Mac and Windows. These are viewed on the same computer, same browser (Opera), same version.

I’ve just read a good article which explains font rendering in two different OS. This information might be useful to you if you:

1. Care about font/type, or
2. Uses Safari on Windows, or
3. Questioning about font on Windows which looks crisp/sharp/jaggy-edged even with ClearType turned on, or
4. Asking “Why websites/articles generally look prettier when they are viewed in Mac OS compared to Windows?”

Gmail, super clean view

Firefox users with GreaseMonkey extension installed shall rejoice!

Change the layout of your Gmail to something neater, cleaner, brighter, simpler, better. Click the picture below for a screenshot on how my Gmail looks like after installing GmailSuperClean script on my PortableFirefox.

Lucida Grande

It’s a font name; One of the most wanted fonts out there. It is the default font of Mac OS X and used mostly in cool and cutting-edge websites, according to this article at BrokenEnglish.com.

Windows users can download this font and install it on their system to enjoy those cool and cutting-edge websites in their original design.

If you don’t have this font installed in your computer, web browsers will replace the font style with other default font, such as Arial or Verdana, depending on stylesheet rules defined by the website author.

K2 + iTheme

I dropped the previous theme of this blog as well as Theme Selector. This blog now looks simpler and cleaner.

Thanks to those cool guys who developed K2 and iTheme. I choose K2 as my blog’s theme to provide AJAX-y feel, like:

• Type and wait to search
• Draggable archive timeline
• Slider to adjust posts’ article length

and then modified its layout with iTheme look-and-feel. It’s now clean, bright, simple, and Mac-y. Hehehe..
