Charge an iPod with an Onion

This is a very interesting video. I found this article and video from another website and there’s nobody else that I know, other than this video’s author, does charge his iPod successfully with an electrolytes-submerged onion. I won’t try this too on my iPod’s USB cable; Can’t imagine having onion layers stuffed beneath my USB plug and smells like onions. :S

It doesn’t take much to charge 15-20 minutes of your iPod; just two cups of Gatorade, an onion, and a screwdriver to make a hole through the onion to boost the chemical reaction process. Maybe our friends from School of Chemical and Life Sciences can explain us how an onion can provides electricity.

Oh yes, this electronion might be a new object in the center of attention for friends in School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering who are hotly debating about green technology.

Blog Action Day

Today is blog action day. Every fifteenth October bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind. The theme for this year is: the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic.

I believe everyone plays a big role in saving the environment and we should start the move in our daily life. There are many environment-friendly actions that you can apply to your daily life and they mean a lot for our mother earth, especially when many people do these together.

I found a great Facebook application named ‘I Am Green’. I added this application to my profile and populate it with many leaves which contribute a lot to the environment. I think you should try that too.

Besides being nice to our mother earth, taking green actions in our daily life brings many other positive things like:

  • Better health. Green movements encourage us to walk and cycle more instead of driving or riding motorcycles.
  • Less monthly bill. Optimizing air conditioner’s temperature and cleaning its filter, installing aerator on water tap, and many other useful tips will definitely reduce your utilities bill.
  • Higher personal savings. Carrying water bottle and refilling it saves a lot. How much dollars do you spend in a month buying drinks in can, plastic bottle, or plastic cups? Not to mention the waste we contribute to the landfill. How about buying used books to save the trees? Used books are also easy on our pocket
  • Good mood. With all those good things mentioned above, how can we not get a good mood? emoticon wink Blog Action Day
  • There are a lot more benefits you can get. Think about it..

If you have an account in Facebook, try the ‘I Am Green’ application. It has tons of useful and practical tips for a greener life. I have added and practiced more than 50 green actions in my daily life. How about you?
